One-Year Fixed Term Medicinal / Synthetic Industrial Post-Doctoral Position (Research Scientist)

12 February 2018

Heptares Therapeutics is an established UK biotech company with world-class technology in structure-based drug design applied to discovery of novel small molecules acting through GPCRs.
The company works in collaboration with major global pharmaceutical companies on both small molecule and antibody discovery programmes; and is also developing its own pipeline of proprietary molecules. The most advanced of these are now in clinical studies with others moving towards clinical development.
The company is currently based in Welwyn Garden City but will be moving to a brand new research facility at Granta Park (Cambridge) in July 2018. Heptares has been operating for over ten years and has approximately 130 employees who will all be based in this new research facility. The size of the company ensures a transparent linkage between all activities from early discovery through to clinical development.
We are currently seeking a highly motivated and skilled organic chemist to join the medicinal chemistry team as a Research Scientist.  This one-year fixed term position will be based in our Granta Park facility and is an exceptional opportunity to participate in cutting edge science and be part of a drug discovery project team that will be engaged in medicinal chemistry and structure-based drug design for GPCR targets. The ideal candidate will feel at home in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary biotech environment, working independently within a results-focused group.
For the right candidate, the role provides an opportunity to work within an industry-leading drug discovery company and apply best practice in a rapidly growing company on scientifically challenging issues at the cutting edge of discovery and development of new medicines.
We are seeking candidates whose profiles will include:

  6. being proactive and responsive to the challenges of the role, working within the broader medicinal chemistry department
  7. will have knowledge and experience of modern organic synthetic methods, with application of analytical & lateral thinking, data analysis and critical problem-solving skills
  8. will be an effective team player, but are at the same time highly self-motivated and able to work independently with excellent time management skills
  9. excellent communication and interaction skills and demonstrated capability to operate in a proactive, collaborative and entrepreneurial environment
